Jablonec nad Nisou - Jablonec is preparing for the restoration of the largest meeting room in the historic town hall building for next year, which is also used for council meetings. The costs of the reconstruction and return to its original form are estimated at eight to nine million crowns. This was communicated to ČTK by the town hall spokesperson Markéta Hozová.

The Jablonec town hall, with a 51-meter tall tower, dates from 1931 to 1933 and was designed by Karel Winter. In recent years, the city has been gradually removing the unsightly chipboard and particle board panels used during an insensitive renovation in the 1970s. This year, two smaller meeting rooms were restored to their original form, costing almost three million crowns.

The large meeting room urgently needs repair. "The meeting room is currently almost at the limit of dignified operability, with damaged plaster and paint, outdated installations, damaged floors, worn and undignified furniture, and projection and reproduction technology," stated the secretary of the magistrate Marek Řeháček.

After a complete reconstruction, the room should return to its original appearance, with the city drawing from preserved photographs and plans by architect Winter. The capacity of the room will also be reduced from the current 120 to 75 seats. "The balcony for the public, accessed from the third floor, will remain in its current form with seating for 30 spectators," Hozová stated.

The broader use of the room is still planned; it is currently also used for training and conferences. "We will replace the current inadequate projection with two flat screens on mobile stands, and other technology necessary for council meetings will remain hidden. This way, the room will continue to serve the public and for the representative purposes of the city, aside from council meetings. Larger weddings could also take place there," added Řeháček.
