Veselí nad Moravou - Veselí nad Moravou in the Hodonín region will begin the reconstruction of Míru Square this year. The city has signed a contract with the contractor, city hall spokesperson Petra Pavková told ČTK. The costs are around 50 million crowns. The city will take out a loan and will also apply for grants, added deputy mayor Petr Kolář (TOP 09). According to him, Veselí currently lacks a natural center, which should change through revitalization. A relaxation zone will be created with space for pedestrians and a cycle path.

Revitalization will start this spring and finish in May next year. The project includes work on the area from the former market through the space in front of the cultural center to the post office. It follows the reconstruction of part of Sokolovská Street in the section from the main Masaryk Avenue to the intersection near the post office branch, where a pedestrian zone has already been created from a one-way street. This will be expanded. "We will solve traffic by maintaining a one-way access road between Panský dvůr, the cinema, and the cultural center. It will be passable to Svatoplukova Street and to the former market. On the other hand, from Panský dvůr to the post office there will be a pedestrian zone with access only for deliveries," Kolář said.

According to him, access to the post office and surrounding shops will remain preserved, as will the parking lot between the post office and the nearby hotel. The work will also affect the sidewalks and a new cycle path will be created. There will be more greenery and recreational elements in the area. "It will be a quiet zone for families with small children," Kolář added.

He described the reconstruction of Míru Square as the first of three planned phases. The second will focus on the space between the cinema and the hotel, and the final phase will address the area between the post office and the hotel. In the last phase of the reconstruction, structures for commerce or housing could arise, but according to Kolář, that is a question for the future. "In the first phase, we will apply for a grant for the cycle path and the sidewalk, which could be up to ten million," Kolář said. The rest will be covered by the city through a loan, which will be around 50 million crowns.

Veselí is located near the Zlín Region. It has about 11,500 inhabitants. The city manages an annual budget of around 200 million crowns.
