Veselí nad Moravou (Hodonínsko) - Veselí nad Moravou in Hodonín will renovate the Míru Square in the next two years. The estimated costs of 70 million crowns will be covered by the city using a loan of 55 million, and it also plans to apply for subsidies, said Deputy Mayor Petr Kolář (TOP 09) to CTK today. According to him, Veselí currently does not have a natural center, which should change after the revitalization. As part of the renovations, a quiet zone with space for pedestrians and a bike path will be created.

Revitalization is set to start next March and end in May 2018. According to Kolář, the work will involve the area from the former market through the space in front of the cultural center to the post office. It follows the reconstruction of part of Sokolovská Street from the main Masaryk Boulevard to the intersection by the post office branch, where a pedestrian zone was previously created from a one-way street. With the current project, the city will expand the pedestrian area. "We will solve traffic by maintaining a one-way access road between Panský dvůr, the cinema, and the cultural center. It will be passable to Svatopluk Street and the market. On the other side, from Panský dvůr to the post office, there will be a pedestrian zone with access only for deliveries," Kolář stated.

According to the Deputy Mayor, the traffic service for the post office and nearby shops will remain unchanged, as will the parking lot between the post office and the nearby Veselan hotel. The work will also affect the sidewalks and a new bike path will be built. After revitalization, there should be more greenery in the area with recreational elements. "It will be a quiet zone for families with small children, where there will be play elements and also an interesting water feature," Kolář noted.

He stated that the reconstruction of Míru Square is the first of three planned phases. This will be followed by work on the area between the cinema and the hotel, and in the last phase, adjustments will be made to the area between the post office and the hotel. During the last phase of reconstruction, structures for commerce or housing may be created, but according to Kolář, that is a question for the future. "We are currently finishing the project documentation for the first phase, estimated at 70 million. The city will cover most of it with a loan of 55 million. We want to apply for subsidies for the bike path and sidewalks," added the Deputy Mayor.

Veselí nad Moravou is located in close proximity to the Zlín Region. It has approximately 11,500 inhabitants. The city operates annually with a budget of around 200 million crowns.
