Karlovy Vary

Karlovy Vary - Karlovy Vary will lease the once-popular and frequently visited excursion restaurant Goethova vyhlídka in the spa woods. The facility has been out of operation for several years, and sporadic attempts to reopen it to revitalize the area have not yielded results so far. Now, local real estate businessman Martin Lojda is set to secure a 25-year lease for the property. However, it is not ruled out that after the announcement of the intent to lease the viewpoint, additional interested parties may come forward. This was communicated to ČTK by Deputy Mayor Petr Bursík (ODS).

For Goethova vyhlídka, the new operator is expected to pay the city 60,000 crowns annually and gradually invest 13 million crowns into the reconstruction of the facility. According to Deputy Mayor Jiří Klsák (KOA), a gallery, a restaurant, and also a small museum should be created at Goethova vyhlídka. First and foremost, however, it will be necessary to repair the observation tower with compromised stability. "Our condition is that the tenant must complete this no later than six months from the signing of the contract. We expect the entire area to finally start functioning," Klsák noted.
The city has essentially not invested in Goethova vyhlídka in recent years. Only smaller amounts have been spent on securing the facility. The city's plan to sell Goethova vyhlídka was abandoned in favor of leasing it out. The facility is intended to be a tourist destination, just like the Diana restaurant on the opposite slopes of the spa woods. However, that restaurant has always managed to remain operational, thanks in part to the cable car that leads here from the spa center. The area of Diana, like the cable car, has been under the management of the municipal transport company for several years now.
