Zlín - The Zlín city hall plans to announce an urban planning and architectural competition in September for the use of the space near the sports hall on Březnická street in the city center. The area covers about 2.5 hectares. Originally, a commercial complex was supposed to be built there, but that plan fell through, and the city subsequently purchased the land. The goal is to build a multifunctional district in the area in the future, said Deputy Mayor Pavel Brada (ANO) to reporters today.
According to the city's vision, the area should feature new housing, commercial spaces, sports facilities, a museum, or a parking garage. "We believe that a parking garage is definitely needed. For both the center of Zlín and the Letná district. And we think there should probably also be some sports areas; we also really like the idea of a veterans' museum. All the steps we are taking are aimed at increasing the city's attractiveness and making it an indisputable regional center," Brada stated.
At the beginning of the year, the city called on residents and investors to submit suggestions for the use of the space under the sports hall. Among the suggestions were a parking garage, a veterans' museum, or small apartments. A water park was also among the proposals, but the city is currently not considering its construction, Brada said.
As the competition's organizer in the mentioned location, the city prefers the placement of several smaller buildings that should be interconnected. The city hall plans to evaluate the competition this December, and according to Brada, the first construction works could begin as early as 2022. Both the city and private entities are likely to participate in them.
