Prague - Prague 1 will announce a design competition for the proposal of a new visual identity for the district, including a logo and other artistic elements used in the communication between the municipality and residents. The spokesperson for the municipality, Karolína Šnejdarová, informed ČTK today. Interested participants can send their portfolios until Thursday, October 23, after which five participants will advance to the first round of the competition.

According to the spokesperson, the aim of the competition is to unify the overall communication of the municipality, promote the residents' sense of belonging to the district, and enhance its attractiveness for new residents. The selected visual identity will be used in all communications, from the website and social media to official documents and printed materials, as well as internal and external signage of the municipal buildings.

"Prague 1 is the heart not only of the metropolis but also of the entire Czech Republic, a place with a rich history and the daily pulse of a modern city. The visual identity will help us to express these values clearly and uniformly – both to residents and to visitors from all over the world," stated the mayor of Prague 1, Terezie Radoměřská (TOP 09).

The competition also concerns the logo, although participants are expected to base their designs on the existing one and respect its historical tradition according to the municipality's brief. The design competition is organized by the Czechdesign organization, with the winner being selected by a jury composed of independent experts and representatives of the district. The results will be announced next year.

In recent years, Czechdesign has also organized competitions for new visual identities for Prague 3, Prague 6, and Prague 10. In the first case, the logo composed of three lines by the Jakub Vaněk Studio team was selected, which the municipality of the third district began using in 2020. The Prague 6 competition was won in 2022 by the ReDesign studio with a logo shaped like a shield with rounded bottom corners and the inscription "Prague 6". Last year, Prague 10 chose a new logo and visual identity referencing the Roman numeral X from the MadLove studio.
