CRACK – as a transcription of the original content as a scar from a careless intervention as a coincidence of an irregular hole as a constriction defined by the hole as a structure of people and nature as a street missing in Liberec
Architectural solution:
I fill the space of the hole with a construction that regularly pours over it at the given slope. I enter this new layer through seven interconnected cracks, which divide the mass into individual blocks. The fissures serve as the main communication space and simultaneously illuminate the whole. The roofs of the individual blocks are grassed and serve as an open park. The rest of the land is planted with trees. This creates two visually distinct parks that complement the densely built pit.
Spatial solution:
Around the cracks, the main life of the entire design unfolds. The proposal is primarily focused on short-term transitional accommodation (dormitories, hostels, housing...) with services and parking. The entire lower ground floor of the building is reserved for services. Here, mainly pubs, restaurants, cafés, dining halls, shops, and offices are located... Their net leasable area is around 5500 m². The remaining floors are designated for the main function – accommodation. There are rooms ranging from 20m² to 150m² designed for 1 to 10 persons. Each room has its own kitchenette, separate toilet, and bathroom. Two rooms are always connected to one common communication core. The total leasable area is around 13,000 m². The parking is located inside the two largest blocks. Both parking areas are four stories high. The lower floors in both blocks are seamlessly accessible from the surrounding terrain. The upper floors are reachable by elevator. The total area of the parking lots is about 15,000 m². This is sufficient for approximately 400 cars.
Technical solution:
The construction is designed as a reinforced concrete monolith. The perimeter formed by accommodation and services is executed as a transverse wall. The interior parking is designed as a monolithic skeleton. The perimeter of the block, which immediately borders the crack, is built between the monolith with thermally insulating ceramic blocks. The outer surface of all buildings has a white plaster.
Operational solution:
The whole is designed as a pedestrian zone. A one-way passing crack serves for service. It is mostly used for servicing the ground floor with services, for waste collection, and is dimensioned for necessary intervention by firefighters, emergency services, and police. Entry of small motorcycles is permitted. Other motor vehicles only with permission...
