Hradec Králové

Hradec Králové - A lookout tower, an unconventional playground for children and adults, or a restaurant could be developed in the future in the attractive area of Rozárka on the hill at the southern edge of Hradec Králové. The winning proposals submitted by young architects to the architectural-landscape competition for the utilization of Rozárka, announced by the city hall, count on this. This was stated by the spokesperson of the magistrate, Magdaléna Vlčková. The winning proposals will serve as a basis for future decision-making by the city on how to appropriately utilize the currently deteriorating area.

The jury evaluated 12 proposals and selected a design by David Jánský and Štěpánka Úlehlová for the first place. Their concept includes the construction of a slender steel lookout tower with a perforated brick facade and a brick area at the base of the tower. It also considers a parking lot among trees and a bistro that would also serve as a bus stop. They proposed a place for sports and the planting of an orchard with the possibility of hosting at a long table.

The proposals in second and third place also include lookout points. The authors of the second-place proposal, David Poloch and Adam Bažant, consider a multifunctional wooden structure for climbing frames with a small refreshment area. The third-place proposal by Lukáš Kemr features a summer cinema and a restaurant for up to 120 guests.

According to Deputy Mayor Jindřich Vedlich, the competitors brought a number of fresh and original proposals. "I see the connection of Rozárka with the forest park as very important," he stated.

Only architects born in 1981 or later could enter the competition. The authors of the awarded proposals will receive cash prizes from the city amounting to tens of thousands of crowns. The city hall will present the proposals to the public at an exhibition in the city library on Wonková Street from November 24 to December 19.

The Rozárka area, which is about 2.6 hectares, is popular among the residents of Hradec as a place with a nice view of the city, the Krkonoš and the Orlické mountains. In the past, there was a ski lift on Rozárka, which is 276 meters above sea level and rises about 50 meters above its surroundings. Since 1992, when the Hradec skiing club left the site, the area has been deteriorating. The location is overgrown with grass and trees.

The city expects that in the future it will also seek suitable uses for the forest park north of Rozárka. It borders the largest housing estate in Hradec, Moravské Předměstí, and is, unlike Rozárka, privately owned.
