Vrána's mill in Břeclav has its first residents, shaped like the former structure

Břeclav – The residential complex Vránův mlýn in Břeclav has been completed after two years of construction, and the first residents are moving in. It was built on the site of the former Liechtenstein mill from the 16th century, which had been deteriorating since the 1990s. The buildings were in poor condition, the new owner demolished them, and in their place built new ones that resemble the former architecture. Investors presented the complex to the public today.

Vránův mlýn is a joint project of the construction company Plus and architect Tomáš Havlíček from the studio Flying Architects. "For us, the project was exceptional particularly because of its location, close proximity to the castle and connection to the Lednice-Valtice area. The new building is based on the silhouette of the original mill and aims to preserve its 'shape memory.' With this approach, we wanted to maintain the genius loci of the site and bring it into the present," said Havlíček.

The complex is equipped with underground parking, a green atrium for residents, and various green technologies. Part of the roofs is covered with greenery and has solar panels on them.

The history of the original Vránův mill, which was named after its last operator before World War II, dates back to the 16th century when it was mentioned in period sources. It operated as a mill until the 1950s, after which it began a gradual decline. A private owner bought it in the 1990s, but allowed the buildings to fall into disrepair. There were several fires in the premises, and the largest fire in 2008 damaged the buildings so much that the new owner demolished them.
