Two apartment buildings will be built in Přerov on the site of the Strojař hotel house

Přerov - At the site of the Strojař hotel building near the center of Přerov, which the city hall has been addressing for several years, two buildings with dozens of municipal apartments will be constructed. The future face of the entire complex was designed by the Almannai Fischer + Svobodová Blaha team in an architectural competition. The buildings will feature 82 municipal apartments of various sizes, with the first interested parties expected to move in within five years. The original structure, a nine-story panel building, was built in the 1960s as accommodation for employees of the Přerov engineering works and will be demolished next year, city hall representatives told reporters today. The city estimates construction costs to be between 300 and 400 million crowns.

"Last year, we approached architects who were tasked with giving the place a practical and appealing character - they were to design not only the apartment buildings but also the modification of the adjacent public spaces. A total of 44 teams from not only the Czech Republic but also abroad expressed interest in participating in the competition, of which five advanced to the final detailed assessment," said Mayor Petr Vrána (ANO). He added that this is a location near the historic center of Přerov, with a view of the river and the castle tower, so the city hall management paid great attention to the competitive dialogue. "The proposal convinced us, among other things, with its detailed thoughtfulness," the mayor noted.

The winning proposal impressed the jury by preserving the sturdy lower floor of the current object, which will remain as a relic of the past and a historical reminder of the now-abandoned Strojař. "Right here, there will be non-residential spaces where, for example, the children’s lending library of the city library could have new facilities. This ground floor, which will feature a barrier-free green rooftop terrace, will be perpendicular to two apartment buildings. Closer to the waterfront, a lower gallery building with smaller apartments and prominent terraces is planned, while a taller apartment building with traditional stairwell cores and spacious, well-lit apartments is proposed on Brabansko Street," said city architect Alice Michálková. The project addresses tenant parking in the ground floors of the individual buildings, ensuring that each apartment will have its own parking space.

The estimated investment costs are expected to be between 300 and 400 million crowns. The city hall also aims to secure national or European grant funds for the construction, or possibly utilize a favorable investment loan, said Deputy Mayor Vladimír Lichnovský (ANO). Partial demolition of the Strojař will also cost millions.

The Strojař panel building, consisting of 144 residential units, was built on Velká Dlážka as a dormitory for employees of the Přerov engineering works. In 2000, it was acquired by the army, which accommodated soldiers from the nearby helicopter base here. In 2016, the city bought the Strojař for 42.5 million crowns out of concern for the creation of a social housing facility. The future of the nine-story panel building has occupied the second city hall administration, as financial issues have derailed all previous plans.
