The public in Zlín has a unique opportunity to get acquainted with Scottish architecture and the original unique architecture of the Hebrides and its development. In his lecture, Iain Patterson (1946), a Scottish painter and draftsman, professor at the Edinburgh College of Art, will discuss a topic he has been engaged with for many years – architecture without architects and also the work of his favorite architect Charles R. Mackintosh (1868 – 1928), the famous Scottish architect and designer. His work influenced the European art movement – Art Nouveau. According to Ian Patterson, “the emphasis should be placed on architecture that withstands the test of time and will be the ideal reflection of national and local sensitivity. Perhaps architects must first be artists – active designers and planners, before they become architects; or at least practice their work alongside these disciplines of visual art.”
