The International Passive House Conference is already in its 3rd year and continues from the two successful conferences held in Brno in previous years. In a short time since its inception, it has developed into a comprehensive showcase of the development and best examples of passive houses and has positioned itself among prestigious European events. Pavilion A at the Brno Exhibition Grounds will open its doors to visitors from 10th - 11th October 2007.
Passive houses are among the most advanced concepts of energy-efficient homes, with thousands already built abroad.
The Passive Houses 2007 Conference aims not only at professionals but also at the general public. The event organizer – the Passive House Centre – believes that attendance will surpass last year's numbers. “Last year, 350 people attended the conference, 23 exhibitors presented their products on the exhibition floor, and nearly 1,000 people visited the accompanying exhibition,” recalls the director of the Passive House Centre, Jan Bárta. “The conference has become an excellent opportunity to establish inspiring collaborations on new projects both in the Czech Republic and abroad,” adds Bárta. According to the Vice-Chairman of the Passive House Centre, Josef Smola, passive houses are a very relevant topic: “In Germany alone, the number of passive houses doubles every year. The forecast for 2010 is 60,000 passive houses. Currently, the demand for residential passive houses in Austria exceeds supply by three times.”
The entire event can take place thanks to the financial support of the European SAVE program – Intelligent Energy Europe, contributions from the Czech Energy Agency, Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, and the city of Brno. The conference is held under the patronage of the Mayor of the Statutory City of Brno, Roman Onderka, who says: “Brno, as the center of the South Moravian region with significant technological and economic potential, supports innovations and new technical solutions that bring energy savings in buildings. What citizens are really interested in are the investment and operational costs of public buildings. If the construction costs of a passive house are only 10% higher than regular investment, but this building consumes 90% less energy, there is no reason not to learn from good examples of more experienced colleagues from abroad.”
The main theme of this year's conference is the transfer of passive house construction technologies from Western European countries to the east. Experts from Austria, Germany, and Italy, where the development of passive houses is progressing fastest, will share their rich experiences with Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, and Polish participants. The program will also include practical implementations of houses in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia.
The program is compiled in cooperation with leading Czech and foreign experts, representatives from state administration, the Czech Energy Agency, and the Czech Chamber of Architects.
