Ústí nad Labem - The city of Ústí nad Labem will pay over 83 million crowns for the demolition of the unfinished sector center, which has stood for more than 20 years in the Ústí district of Severní Terasa. The councilors today approved the winning company AZ Sanace, which will carry out the project. Instead of a ruin, there will be a new traffic playground and sports facilities.
The city hall has been trying to do something with the center for many years but has been in court with the investor who acquired the building in the 1990s and wanted to convert it into a shopping center. However, his plans did not materialize. In recent years, metal collectors have been dismantling the building, and homeless people often spent the night there. The court case concluded last year.
The city has promised subsidies from European funds for the demolition of the center. Mayor Jan Kubata (ODS) stated today at the council meeting that the city would thus pay only 7.5 percent of the total amount for the demolition of the sector center.
Today, the Communists disagreed with the selection of the contractor, mainly due to the alleged offer from the company Explosia, which reportedly proposed to demolish the center for about 30 million crowns less than the winner of the tender. Kubata today rejected such claims, stating that the company did not apply for the tender, and awarding the contract to it would be illegal. Jaroslav Kubín (KSČM), on the other hand, argued with a letter in which the company reportedly reached out to the city.
