Rožnov pod Radhoštěm

Rožnov pod Radhoštěm - The leadership of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm in Vsetín has today signed a contract with the construction supplier of the Cultural Center, the Rožnov company Taros Nova. The municipality will pay 278.92 million crowns for the construction, which will be completed in 22 months. This is the largest investment project of the city in recent years. Several generations have been waiting for a dignified cultural venue, said Rožnov Mayor Jan Kučera (for Independent Rožnov Citizens) to journalists today.

The cultural center is unique in that it is a wooden construction built to passive energy standards. According to the city and company leadership, it will be the largest wooden structure of this type in the Czech Republic. "This construction is important from multiple perspectives, both for the citizens to have a modern and adequate cultural venue, which has been lacking here for several years, and from the perspective of the wooden construction industry. It is important that such buildings serve as first swallow examples and motivate other municipalities to adopt this type of sustainable construction. At the same time, we find ourselves in the heart of Wallachia, where wood has always been a building block of history," stated Radek Ondruch, Chairman of the Board of Taros Nova. Spruce wood from Czech companies will be used.

The company is the supplier of the construction including the technical equipment of the building, such as plumbing, heating, and air conditioning. The interior equipment, including furniture and stage technology, is the subject of separate, subsequent contracts for theatrical technology, audio-video technology, stage lighting, telescopic seating, and interior furnishings. Costs for the interior equipment are expected to be in the tens of millions of crowns.

Taros Nova will now complete the project documentation, prepare materials, and begin manufacturing parts in their halls. Assembly on-site is expected to start at the end of spring next year. The center will feature two multifunctional social halls, a foyer with a café, and an atrium.

"The large hall will offer a capacity of nearly 350 seats and will be primarily used for hosting concerts, theater performances, or balls," stated Deputy Mayor Markéta Blinková (ODS). The small hall will have a capacity of around 110 seats. "The first program that we would like to offer to the citizens of Rožnov in the new cultural center could be Advent in Rožnov in 2027. However, there will also be popular balls, concerts, and various theater performances," said Deputy Mayor Tomáš Gross (for KDU-ČSL). 47 parking spaces will be created around the center.

The construction of the cultural center began in the spring of 2022 by the Zlín construction company Navláčil. However, they disagreed with the city's leadership on changing the subcontractor for the wooden construction. They also pointed out deficiencies in the project documentation and demanded a higher price for the main construction. In the autumn of that year, they withdrew from the contract, and the city agreed with the company to terminate the contract. The municipality then had assessments of the project documentation made, which revealed deficiencies. The city agreed with the project's author that oversight would be transferred to another architect, and last summer approved the announcement of a public tender for the construction of the center. Companies had access to the project documentation, which they were to review and finalize. Taros Nova was the only bidder.
