Veselí nad Moravou (Hodonínsko) - Work on the construction of a 15-meter tall lookout tower among the vineyards on Radošov Hill near Veselí nad Moravou is slowly coming to an end. Shaped like a wine glass, it will open to the public on May 31, and its construction will cost 3.5 million crowns. Petr Kolář (TOP 09), the city’s deputy mayor, said today that most of the costs will be covered by the city through European Union grants.
The observation tower will be made of wood and steel. From the upper platform, visitors will overlook Saint Antonín Hill, which is an important pilgrimage site in Moravia, as well as Velká Javořina, Buchlov Hills, and Pálava near Mikulov.
The project also includes the construction of two tourist trails around the city - a ten-kilometer trail for pedestrians and a twenty-five-kilometer trail for cyclists. There will be 19 stops along these trails that will introduce tourists to the nature and history of this part of Moravian Slovakia.
According to the Club of Friends of Lookout Towers, there are now nearly 90 lookout towers in Moravia. About a quarter of them were built in the past five years when the construction of lookout towers became widespread. Municipalities are investing in them in an effort to help revive tourist interest in well-known natural locations.
New ones are planned, for example, in Žernovník near Blansko, where a viewpoint will be created from an old water tower. In nearby Roubanina, there will be a lookout tower designed for night visits, which will include a telescope.
