Velké Meziříčí - A new hall for ball sports in Velké Meziříčí in the Žďár region will be completed in the middle of next year. The construction, costing 156 million crowns, was started by the city last autumn in the park above the Gastro-technical secondary school. According to Mayor Alexandros Kaminaras (for Společně VM), the city will fund it with the help of grants. It will receive a total of 115 million crowns for the hall from the National Sports Agency (NSA) and the region.
"It is a fulfilled dream for several generations of athletes," said Kaminaras during today's symbolic laying of the foundation stone for the hall. He stated that the impetus for the construction was the announcement of a regional grant program for sports infrastructure. Velké Meziříčí received 25 million crowns from it, and an additional 90 million crowns from the NSA. To expedite preparation, the city selected a construction company through a competition that also provided the documentation for the construction.
The hall is being built according to the designs of architects from Cuboid Architekti by the local company BUILDINGcentrum - VHS. Construction work began last November, and this month workers built the reinforced concrete skeleton. The longest trusses that needed to be transported measured 34 meters. "It was logistically very complex; access to the construction site is challenging," said Karel Věžník, the managing director of the construction company, to ČTK.
He appreciated that residents loaned their gardens to the company at critical intersections. "Where we occupied almost half of their garden and concreted a quarter of it, but thanks to them, all of this could be created," he stated. With the help of a crane, the skeleton was managed to be built in two weeks. The building will be 13 meters high. Since it is sunk into the slope, it appears significantly lower from the access side.
The hall will host volleyball, handball, basketball, and tennis, and will also be used by athletes and secondary school students. There will be 350 seats for spectators, and there will be parking for cars and buses near the hall. The city purchased a roughly one-hectare plot of land for the hall near the school from the region. Other sports facilities are also nearby.
