Velké Meziříčí (Žďársko) - In Velké Meziříčí, the Vysočina region will begin construction of a retirement home at the end of this month. After its completion in 2011, people currently living in another outdated regional facility for seniors in the city will move there. The new building will serve 94 clients, said regional councilor Petr Krčál to ČTK today. The construction will cost 99.5 million crowns, with the state covering 70 percent of the expenses.

The retirement home is currently located on Hornoměstská Street, in a building that was constructed in 1932 for administrative purposes. It has been serving seniors since 1961, but it no longer meets today's needs. "Clients are accommodated in single to quadruple rooms without their own social facilities and bathrooms," described Krčál.
The new three-story building will be located in Čechovy Sady and will be completed at the turn of 2010 to 2011. The majority of the rooms will be designated for one or two clients, each room will have its own social facilities. Relaxation services, a buffet, and a library with internet will also be offered to clients in the building.
The Vysočina region currently operates 12 retirement homes with a capacity of nearly 1400 beds, and another 14 homes in the Vysočina region are managed by towns and church organizations. The region is now adapting an unused pavilion in the Havlíčkův Brod hospital for seniors, which should provide over 40 places. A retirement home with 75 beds is also expected to be established in Jihlava within two years. It will be located in the former Tesla company premises on Havlíčkova Street, at an estimated cost of about 107 million crowns. The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has promised to subsidize its construction with 70 million crowns. The remaining money will initially be invested by the private company Corbada on behalf of the city, and the Jihlava city hall will gradually repay this investment.
