Prague - In Prague's Ládví, the demolition of the outer part of the former cinema Moskva began today, followed by the multiplex Ládví. Demolition work inside the building started in March. Tomáš Kubík, spokesman for Penny Market, which will build a supermarket on the site of the former cinema, said this today to ČTK. The new Penny store is expected to be completed by autumn next year. The cinema, opened in the 1970s and renovated in the 1990s, went bankrupt a few years ago.

"The demolition of the building was started due to its emergency technical condition based on valid permits in March of this year. The demolition of the internal parts has been ongoing for several months; the demolition of the outer part is now continuing," Kubík stated.

The demolition of the building should be completed by the end of this June, and the construction of the new store will be finished in the second half of next year. "We are currently working on a design proposal for its appearance, which we are discussing with representatives of the local government and local organizations. In the case of Ládví, as with all other Penny stores, the architectural design will be prepared to ensure that the new building fits into the surrounding environment," Kubík added.

The Moskva cinema first screened a film in 1977. According to the publication The Lost World of Silver Screens by Miroslav and Jaroslav Čvančar, it was the film A Shot from Aurora. Moskva closed in 1995 due to a lack of audience interest and was subsequently converted into the multiplex Ládví, which began screening in 1998. The multiplex went bankrupt several years ago.
