Karlovy Vary - In the area of the Svatošské Rocks, construction of a new bridge over the Ohře River could begin in the fall. This will be made possible by the transfer of land from Czech Post to the ownership of the Karlovy Vary Region. The region has long sought to acquire the land. The government ultimately decided to obtain it for free. The recreational area operated by a private tenant could also develop in the future, said the president of the Karlovy Vary Region, Jana Mračková Vildumetzová (ANO), to ČTK.
"The land was important for us for two reasons. To ensure that the area continues to be used for recreational purposes as before and that it could be used by the citizens of the Karlovy Vary Region and tourists. The second reason is that the Karlovy Vary Region needed to acquire the land for the construction of a new footbridge so that emergency services could access the area in case of any issues," said the president.
The region already has a project prepared for the new bridge, and as soon as the land is transferred, it will initiate a tender process. The budget for the bridge has allocated 15 million crowns, added regional councilor Josef Janů (Pirates). Thanks to its larger capacity, the bridge will be able to accommodate the influx of cyclists, tourists, and other visitors to the Svatošské Rocks. However, the current footbridge should remain in place, as the town of Loket is preparing its reconstruction. It will likely become more of a tourist attraction.
The region wants to discuss further development of the recreational area with its current operator. With the help of subsidies, some buildings in the area could, for example, be renovated. Currently, the Children's Paradise Svatošské Skály offers activities such as horseback riding and a mini-zoo, a children's rope center, or a giant trampoline. There is also a forest kindergarten operating in the area, where nature schools are held, for example.
