Prague - Extensive renovations of the Shooting Island will be completed by mid-September. It will be officially opened to the public on September 26. This was announced today by the mayor of Prague 1, Oldřich Lomecký (TOP 09). The reconstruction of the island cost about 80 million crowns.

The city hall had originally anticipated the completion of the construction modifications by this July. However, during the flood in June, the construction site was flooded, and workers had to wait for the surfaces to dry. Additionally, due to the elevated level of the Vltava River, it was not possible to transport necessary materials to the island by boat for an extended period. As a result, the work was delayed.
According to the city hall spokesperson Veronika Blažková, the ceremonial opening of the island is planned for September 26 and the following days. Each day will be themed for a different group of residents, such as students, families with children, or seniors.
The local council has already approved the visitor rules that will apply on the island. For example, visitors will not be allowed to consume alcohol and use drugs, walk dogs off-leash, start fires, host fireworks, or ride bicycles, rollerblades, or skateboards, except during cultural events. The island will be open from April to the end of October from 06:00 to 22:00, and from November to the end of March from 08:00 to 19:00. The enforcement of the rules will be overseen by guards, Lomecký added.
During the renovations, about thirty trees were cut down, while over 60 new ones have been planted. Part of the revitalization includes the construction of a new elevator on the northern side of the Legií Bridge and the repair of the access stairs. New restrooms will be installed inside the staircase. In addition to new sidewalks, lighting, and complete infrastructure, two new playgrounds will be added to the island.
The municipal district is only repairing the northern part of the island, which is often used for cultural events. The southern tip belongs to a private owner who has a restaurant there.
