Brno - In the spring of next year, the residents of Brno will be introduced to the futuristic Sonocentrum in the district of Žabovřesky, the construction of which cost several hundred million crowns. The building will include a restaurant, a hotel, and a giant concrete sphere that will house a concert hall, said investor Jiří Štopl from SONO records to ČTK.
Due to the construction, former mayor of Žabovřesky Aleš Kvapil and city secretary Radovan Novotný went to prison for soliciting a bribe from Štopl to ensure the smooth progress of the construction. The corruption case is already behind Štopl, and he is now fully focused on the completion of the building.
"Currently, the glass façades are being finished, and the exterior cladding of the hall still needs to be fine-tuned. Inside, electrical wiring, flooring, and final interior work and outdoor adjustments are still in progress. After completion, the building will be in a testing phase for about a month, and we want to open in the spring," Štopl stated. He did not provide a specific date due to the technical complexity of the construction.
The Sonocentrum project on Veveří Street is wedged between a building from the historical development and the modern Platinium. The main feature will be a three-story concert hall for 600 people. "The project is associated with the renowned recording studio Sonorecords. The hall will be equipped with excellent acoustics, allowing for live recordings. The club space will be variable, so concerts, theater performances, dance parties, festivals, as well as conferences, training sessions, or rehearsals for larger musical ensembles can be held here," Štopl listed. It will also be possible to arrange the seating in various configurations. It can be classic in rows, in several variants at tables, or combined.
The restaurant will have a capacity of 150 people, and the hotel will offer 80 beds. "I believe that Sonocentrum will become a good place for live culture not only in the Czech Republic but also in Central Europe," Štopl hinted.
