Brno - The conference building Sonocentrum, known from the Žabovřesky corruption case, has received a final zoning decision. The building, for which the former mayor of Brno-Žabovřesky, Aleš Kvapil, and the former secretary of the Brno-střed district, Radovan Novotný, allegedly asked for a bribe, is to be constructed by SONO Records on the border of Žabovřesky and Brno-střed. A zoning process for the project has so far taken place. On Monday, the zoning decision became legally binding, said Jiří Štopl, co-owner of the company, to ČTK. According to Štopl, the company will now start gathering documents for the building permit. It will apply for it later. Štopl intends to build Sonocentrum in a gap next to the Platinia building, which his company built earlier in Veveří and then sold. The company's intention is to build a multifunctional facility serving cultural and social life in Žabovřesky, but not only there. "The proposed multifunctional building will combine accommodation, culture, restaurant operations, and parking," the company stated in its application to authorities for an environmental impact assessment of the project. As part of Sonocentrum, there will be a hall for about 300 people divided into a stage, dance floor, and auditorium, which will be supplemented by three galleries. The restaurant could accommodate up to 300 people, while the hotel accommodation part will have a capacity of 80 beds. The center's building is expected to have four underground floors for garages, nine above-ground floors for the accommodation part, and four floors for the operation of the center. The anticipated start of construction is this year, with the expected completion and commissioning next year. SONO Records is mainly known as the operator of a renowned recording studio in Unhošť-Nouzov in the Kladno region. Co-owners of the company include producers Milan Cimfe and Pavel Karlík. This duo, for example, was behind last year's recording of the famous band Living Colours, which was largely created in the Sono studio in Nouzov. In the studio, Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová recorded the song Falling Slowly, for which they received an Oscar two years ago for Best Original Song of 2007. The studio has also collaborated in the past with rock star David Bowie and composer Phil Glass. Many domestic bands have recorded in the studio as well.
