Přerov - The Přerov Town Hall has decided to bury the fountain with sculptures near the Haná restaurant instead of reconstructing it. The author of the sculptures is academic sculptor Ivan Theimer. It is one of his first works from the late 1960s. The city management had estimated the repair costs to be several million crowns. Although the city selected a contractor for the reconstruction of the fountain, it ultimately withdrew from the contract due to its violation. The sculptures from the fountain will likely be relocated under the city walls, said Lenka Chalupová, spokesperson for the town hall, today.

The fifty-year-old fountain near the Haná restaurant is in a dilapidated condition. The only pride remains Theimer's sculptures symbolizing plant motifs - such as a poppy head, a beech mast, and a mallow flower. "We have agreed with their author that we will find a suitable and representative location for them. Provisionally, we are considering relocating them under the walls, near the statue of Neptune. This was suggested by Ivan Theimer himself," stated Přerov Mayor Vladimír Puchalský (Together for Přerov).
The city will bury the basin of the fountain. "After the sculptures are removed, we want to cover it with soil and plant grass. Given the nature of the location, it is not possible to expect that there should be a quiet zone with a fountain here," said Petr Měřínský, Deputy Mayor of Přerov.
The town hall has also decided not to build a small park with a quiet zone for 2.5 million crowns near the passage in the city center. This was the second contract based on one agreement. According to the city management, the company Sates Morava, which was supposed to carry out both contracts, did not inform the town hall about its subcontractor, which violated the contract. ČTK is trying to contact the company. The city has therefore decided to terminate both constructions simultaneously.
