Přerov - The Přerov Town Hall is preparing a renovation of the castle moat near the local château. The walls that edge the moat will also be reconstructed. City councilors have already approved the start of a tender for a construction company that will begin work this year. The modifications are expected to cost 2.2 million crowns. Part of the costs could be covered by a grant, reported ČTK spokesperson Lenka Chalupová. In addition to this project, the town hall also plans to modify the area around the Evangelical Church. "We are planning to repair the stone wall in the southwestern part of the castle moat, which is part of the fortification of the inner city. The city wall encloses the courtyard area - the gardens behind the houses on Wilsonova Street," said Deputy Mayor of Přerov Petr Měřínský (ANO).
The construction work will affect both sides of the city wall. The plan includes static securing of the city wall, as well as the removal of non-original brick and damaged masonry, restoring the niches, and repointing. "The project also includes repairing the top of the wall and clad it with slate slabs," added Ivana Pinkasová from the Přerov magistrate. The walls will be reconstructed over a length of about 15 meters, with a height of seven meters from the side of the moat and up to nine and a half meters from the gardens. "We expect to submit a grant application for this project by the end of March from the program for the regeneration of urban heritage zones. One of the conditions of this program is to provide proof of the conclusion of a work contract," Měřínský added.
In addition to the city walls, the town hall also wants to implement significant changes to the area near the Evangelical Church, which includes a rare statue of John Amos Comenius. The proposed construction modifications in Čapky Drahlovského and Velké Novosady streets concern about one hectare. According to the spokesperson of the town hall, the plans primarily involve the modification of the parking lot, as well as the reconstruction of adjacent sidewalks, the construction of a bike path, new public lighting, and the planting of 50 trees and 80 shrubs. The plan also includes new and modern urban furniture. The city has already approved the initiation of project preparation, with the town hall expected to pay about one million crowns for the project documentation.
