Prague - Prague 7 has begun the long-planned renovation of Ortenovo Square. The reconstruction will cost nearly 42.2 million crowns. This was announced today in a press release by Deputy Mayor Tomáš Kaštovský (ODS). The original tender was canceled two years ago due to errors by the Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS). The opposition criticizes the investment. The start of the work was delayed by the ÚOHS ruling, which stated that there were errors in the tender documentation that could have significantly affected the selection of the most suitable offer. Therefore, the municipal district had the documentation revised and reissued the contract last spring. "The reconstruction of the largest square in Prague 7 has been long planned with the aim of adapting the space of Ortenovo Square for pleasant and safe leisure activities for residents and visitors of Prague 7," stated the deputy mayor. The project includes landscaping, the installation of an irrigation system, the repair of sidewalks, and the reconstruction of the children's playground. New play elements for children, as well as benches and trash bins will be added. The town hall also wants to calm the busy road in front of T. G. Masaryk Primary School and increase the number of parking spaces. Three underground large-volume containers for sorted waste will be added. Opposition councilors have long rejected the project as too expensive.
