Prague - New pedestrian crossings will be added at the mouth of Resslova Street at Karlovo náměstí in Prague 2 in July. The spokesman for the Institute of Planning and Development (IPR), Adam Švejda, informed ČTK today. There will also be a pedestrian zone in front of the Church of St. Ignatius, and a bike lane will be created from Žitná Street. IPR has also prepared a conceptual study for the revitalization of the park area of the square. In the future, there may be a café, playground, and a space for cultural events. "Starting in July, new crossings will be created across the intersection with Resslova Street, which will finally connect the separated parts of the square and supplement the missing pedestrian links," said Švejda. At the same time, the surface of the roads around the square will be repaired, and a new bike lane will be created in Žitná Street, connecting Nové Město and Vinohrady. "Last but not least, a pedestrian zone will be created in front of the Church of St. Ignatius, and several other barriers will be removed," the spokesman added. IPR will now present the conceptual study for the park area of the square at an exhibition and at public consultations at Karlovo náměstí. Citizens will be able to discuss with the study's creators and provide their suggestions and comments. The goal of the study is not to change the character of Karlovo náměstí, but to address the most pressing local issues through minor adjustments and minimal funding. The study proposes a space for occasional social and cultural events, a safe playground for children, or a café with seating in the park. The study should serve as a basis for follow-up landscape-architectural proposals. A tram track has already been reconstructed on the western edge of Karlovo náměstí. A tram stop has also been created opposite the ČVUT building towards Spálená, and the entrances to the park on this side of the square have been refurbished.
