The series of lectures and debates in this year's Offcity Architects cycle focuses on the theme of water as an element of public space. We are interested in the significance of the banks of the Elbe and Chrudimka rivers, as well as water as an urban-forming phenomenon, which is also addressed beyond the riverbeds. As guests of this year's cycle, we invite experts from various fields – personalities who examine and address the topic of water in the city in different contexts and relations, from diverse professional and personal perspectives. Our goal is to convey the issues of water in the city to the public in an open, comprehensible, and meaningful way and to aid in its understanding. As the second speaker in the series, Martin Čapský and František R. Václavík will present their work as part of the research team from the University of Pardubice. This team has long been dedicated to the topic of water management and its role in shaping the cultural landscape from the late Middle Ages to the present. The project Water in Motion connects experts from the humanities and technical fields as well as environmental engineering and focuses on the relationships between landscape changes, economic activities, and social changes. The research also examines residents' attitudes towards the impacts of climate change and seeks ways to integrate proposed measures into the long-term strategies of the Pardubice Region. The evening will be structured as a lecture, followed by a moderated discussion.
