Moravské Budějovice - The Sokolovna in Moravské Budějovice in the Třebíč region is a new monument of the Vysočina Region, announced today in a press release by the spokesperson for the Telč office of the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ), Ilona Ampapová. The Sokolovna belongs to the Moravské Budějovice Physical Education Association Sokol, which has been striving for its designation as a monument for several years. After consulting with heritage experts, it also prepared an extensive restoration of the building, which is estimated to cost over 100 million crowns, said the association’s mayor Jan Švaříček.
"We realize the value of that building, we want to support it, clean it, and we want to treat it and its history with respect. And we have architects who can combine it with a modern functional sports facility," said Švaříček.
The Sokolovna was built between 1927 and 1930 in Tovačovské Sady according to the design of architect František Krásný. "The area of the Sokolovna in Moravské Budějovice, with its size, layout of masses, and overall concept, ranks among the most monumental buildings of this type in the Vysočina Region," stated Miloslav Záškoda from NPÚ. Since the Sokolovna has not undergone a significant reconstruction in almost 100 years, its value lies primarily in its authenticity.
The planned restoration aims to keep the Sokolovna’s original exterior appearance, which will also include the replacement of heating, lighting, insulation, and some windows, increasing capacity, expanding halls, and building restrooms and locker rooms. The Sokol members have already consulted with preservationists on the study for it. They now have construction permits for the restoration of the entire building, and the implementation documentation is being completed.
According to Švaříček, at the turn of the year, it will be possible to start applying for state or regional grants that would help finance the restoration. It will likely require over 100 million crowns, with plans to divide the work into several smaller parts. The project documentation has cost over four million crowns.
Along with the Sokolovna in Moravské Budějovice, the bell tower in Panská Lhota in the Jihlava region and the remnants of the fortifications of the former fortress in Železné Horky in the Havlíčkův Brod region became cultural monuments in the Vysočina region in this third quarter of the year.
There are almost three thousand immovable cultural monuments in the Vysočina region.
