Mělník - Mělník is preparing extensive repairs for the summer swimming pool, which is set to begin after this year's bathing season. The more than 50-year-old facility is no longer in good condition and does not meet current needs. It will be divided into two phases, with completion expected by the end of 2027. Costs are estimated to be around 200 million crowns. A stage for holding cultural events will also be created at the swimming pool, said Mělník's mayor Tomáš Martinec (ODS) at today's press conference.
"The goal is to carry out a complete renovation," the mayor stated. The first phase will concern the recreational and swimming pools. In addition to new stainless-steel basins, the technology for water treatment will be renewed, and new attractions will be added. The city will also renovate the areas around the pool. A separate shaded pool for the youngest children is also being planned.
The construction of new facilities and changing rooms will be part of the second phase, with the original buildings set for demolition. The new facilities will also serve for various events, such as concerts and sports tournaments.
A children's playground and a beach volleyball court will also be included.
The summer swimming pool has been operating in Mělník since the 1970s, with the last major modernization taking place in 2001, followed by some partial repairs and modifications.
