Prague - Prague Castle is exceptionally opening its representative spaces to visitors today. People can view some of the salons in the southern wing of the New Palace, which were renovated during the summer. They will also access other halls of the New Palace that are not normally open to the public and which are used for the most significant protocol and social events. An open house day is also planned for Saturday and entry is free.
From the renovated spaces, visitors will see the ceremonial staircase at Matthias Gate, the Dressing Room, the Entrance Salon, the Throne Room, and Brožík's Salon, where the president, for example, appoints the government or receives ambassadors and foreign heads of state. According to presidential spokesperson Jiří Ovčáček, the restoration of the halls drew on the first-republican appearance of the representative spaces during the first Czechoslovak presidents Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk and Edvard Beneš.
Along the entire tour route, there will be panels reminding visitors of significant events from recent years. It will also present the history and present of the presidential office and the Administration of Prague Castle and the activities of Czech presidents in historical comparison. In the Social Salon, employees of the castle archive have prepared an exhibition of facsimiles of rare archival documents for visitors.
There will also be a demonstration of contemporary ceremonial dining at Prague Castle and the dining table of Masaryk with his official porcelain service, original crystal, and silver cutlery.
The castle will be open today and on Saturday from 09:00 to 17:00, and visitors will enter through a special entrance from Hradčanské Square, where there will be security checks at the entrance to the representative spaces.
The public last had the opportunity to view the normally inaccessible areas of the Castle on June 3, when around 6400 people took advantage of this opportunity. Before that, the Castle was opened in April 2015.
