Prague - The final farewell to architect Jan Kaplický, who suddenly passed away last week, will be accompanied at the Prague Crossroads by projections of his projects and inspirations, as well as some moments from his life. Notable architects from the Czech Republic and abroad, including those who worked with Kaplický on the National Library project, will come to bid farewell to him. During the gathering, composer Petr Hapka and singer Kryštof Michal from the group Support Lesbiens will sing several songs.
CTK was informed today by Radek Zeman from the agency representing the family of the deceased. Among Czech colleagues and friends bidding farewell to Kaplický will be architect Eva Jiřičná and singer and architect Pavel Bobek.
The public farewell to Jan Kaplický will take place on Tuesday, January 27, at the Prague Crossroads, in the space created from the Church of St. Anna in the Old Town. The organizers have again changed the starting time of the gathering - people can come to say goodbye to the architect from 1 PM to 7 PM.
Prague Crossroads was initiated by former president Václav Havel. It is a place for various meetings, hosting lectures, discussions, concerts, performances, exhibitions, and meditations. The architectural design is by Eva Jiřičná.
Jan Kaplický, known in the Czech Republic primarily for his design of the new building of the National Library, suddenly passed away last Wednesday evening in Prague. On the same day, his second child, daughter Johanka, was born.
Now there is a growing call for the library in Prague to be built according to his design. Blob fans are preparing a demonstration in Prague on February 5, communicating with each other online, and the group expressing this opinion has already included 17,000 people. The group has decided to transition from the virtual space to the civic arena, and will therefore transform into the civic initiative Democracy Builds.
