České Budějovice - The South Bohemia Region will build two senior homes by the first half of 2017. The plans and implementation were approved by the council today. One will be created by adapting an unused hospital building in Dačice in Jindřichohradecko, and the other will be an extension and addition to the senior home in Kaplice in Český Krumlov. In the first case, the costs are estimated at 90 million crowns, in the second at 45 million. A total of 133 places for clients will be created.

The Senior Home Dačice is being built partly as a replacement for the Senior Home Budíškovice, which is located in a large chateau building and is not suitable for modernization. "By utilizing the hospital building in Dačice, the region will also manage to optimize operational costs. In Budíškovice, 138 beds are operated, and residents from other regions who do not contribute to their stay are also accepted," said Deputy Governor Ivana Stráská (ČSSD) at the council meeting. Therefore, the capacity in the replacement hospital building in Dačice will be reduced to 70 to 75 beds. In addition, the senior home will purchase catering and other services from the regional hospital Dačice.
Seniors from the home in Budíškovice will have an increased comfort, gaining single and double rooms and their own sanitary facilities. The region is requesting support from the Ministry of Social Affairs for the project. Of the 90 million, it should cover 25 percent of the costs from its own funds. If the support is not obtained, the construction will be financed from its budget. Work is expected to begin in November and be completed in March 2017.
In Kaplice, it involves construction modifications, an extension, and an addition to the current senior home. Due to the small capacity, it has been expanded since 1998 with a detached workplace in Český Krumlov, which has constantly increased costs. It currently serves a total of 52 clients. The new project plans for 58 beds in Kaplice. In the event that a subsidy is obtained, the region would co-finance a quarter of the costs. Even if the region does not obtain the subsidy, the home will be built by June 2017.
