On Friday, July 17 at 3 PM, a sculpture Směrník by the author Václav Uruba from 1969 will be installed in front of the new administrative building of the National Heritage Institute in Ostrava on Odboje Street (Odboje 1941/1). The sculpture, originally located in front of the railway station in Havířov, will be transported from the Michal Mine complex, where it underwent complete restoration. Visitors can also participate in a guided tour of the exhibition Brussels… in Ostrava in the House of Art with art historian Martin Strakoš at 4:30 PM.

The sculpture will be ceremonially presented by the director of the Ostrava branch of the National Heritage Institute Michal Zezula and the initiator of the rescue of the sculpture Jakub Ivánek. The restoration of Směrník was carried out by restorer Tomáš Skalík. A memorial plaque created by sculptor Šárka Mikesková will also be installed.
Guests will receive a postcard issued in memory of the rescue and the ceremonial installation of the sculpture Směrník. The postcard was published by the civic association Fiducia in collaboration with the Důl architektury association, the beautification association Za krásnou Ostravu, and the National Heritage Institute.

The sculpture Směrník, made of monolithic concrete, is newly installed on Odboje Street, where it is intended to enhance the public space in front of the facade of the monumentally protected functionalist building. At the same time, it aims to highlight the issue of the protection of monuments and artworks from the second half of the 20th century.

Důl architektury purchased Směrník from the city of Havířov for a symbolic 1 CZK and then sold the sculpture back for 1 CZK to the National Heritage Institute, which restored Směrník at its own expense. The cost of the restoration amounted to 130,000 CZK.
