Brno – Brno has begun searching for a construction company that will build a parking garage on Šumavská Street by 2023 and modify its surroundings not just for parking. The initiation of the tender process was approved today by Brno city councilors, who informed journalists about it.

"The capacity of the parking garage is 411 spaces, and for visitors and people from surrounding administrative and residential buildings, there will also be an outdoor parking area with a capacity of 202 spaces, which will be subject to Zone B residential parking regulations," stated the councilor for transport, Petr Kratochvíl.

After completion, there will be twice as many parking spaces in the outdoor area as there are now, where people can currently use about a hundred. The asphalt parking area will be complemented by greenery and trees, and a fountain or water feature will be created at the intersection of Veveří and Pod Kaštany Streets. The parking garage with services will also allow for the parking of gas-powered vehicles on the roof of the building, with 42 spaces reserved for this type of car; a transformer station will also be located in the building to enable the installation of charging stations for electric vehicles.

The construction of the parking garage and modification of its surroundings is expected to take 14 to 16 months, with completion anticipated by the end of next year. The city estimates that the construction will cost approximately 315 million crowns, with 86 million crowns coming from the city budget. Another investor in the construction will be Brněnské komunikace.
