Brno – Brno will build a parking garage and an outdoor parking lot on Šumavská Street. This will create over 600 parking spaces. The costs are 374 million crowns. City representatives announced this to journalists today. The council selected the company Strabag today to construct the parking facility. It must be completed within 14 months.
Parking will be created near the high-rise buildings on Šumavská Street. The parking garage is designed as a reinforced concrete monolithic structure. Architecturally, it will consist of four interlocking blocks. "The building will have two parts with different functions. The part reserved for public garages will have two underground and four above-ground floors, while the part designated for public facilities, where the city council offices will be located, will have one underground and three above-ground floors. The capacity of the parking garage is 411 spaces," said Luděk Borový, the director of the municipal company.
He added that vehicles powered by gas will park on the roof, where 42 spaces will be allocated for them. The remainder of the roof will be covered with grass. The building will also include a transformer station that will enable the installation of charging stations for electric vehicles.
The outdoor parking lot with a capacity of 202 spaces will serve visitors and users of the surrounding buildings in a residential parking model of zone B. In zone A, only residents and subscribers can park, while in zone B, there is a charge of 30 crowns per hour for the whole day, except for the first hour which is free. In zone C, parking during weekdays from 5:00 PM to 6:00 AM costs 20 crowns for every 60 minutes. One hour a day is free. From 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM, parking is free for visitors as well.
According to Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS), the construction of the parking facility will ensure better parking conditions in the city center. The construction will also include the creation of a water feature or the adjustment of parkland.
