Suurhusen (Germany) - When the words leaning tower are mentioned, everyone thinks of the famous tilted structure in Italian Pisa. However, the church in the northern German village of Suurhusen can boast the title of the most leaning tower in the world. This was confirmed by German representatives of the Guinness Book of Records according to the DPA. The more than 27-meter tall tower of the Suurhusen sanctuary has a tilt of 5.07 degrees from its axis. Its much more famous Italian competitor is tilted "only" by 3.97 degrees. The church in Suurhusen dates back to the first half of the 13th century and was originally part of the fortifications. In the mid-15th century, local residents demolished about a quarter of it and built the tower at this location, thanks to which the village in Germany's East Frisia may become world-famous in the future. Its entry in the Guinness Book of Records should appear in a new edition next year in the fall, according to DPA.
