Brno – A social and healthcare complex on Červený kopec in Brno will be built by Winning PS, IDPS and Geosan Group. City councillors selected the contractors at Wednesday's meeting, with the winning bid coming in at just under CZK 890 million excluding tax. The facility, which will serve people requiring follow-up medical care, seniors and people with disabilities, could be completed in 2029. The city will fund the construction, City Hall said in a press release.
The city has been preparing the project for many years. The tender process to select a contractor took more than a year. The deadline was postponed due to changes to the tender specifications and, later, numerous questions from bidders.
"The complex will consist of three pavilions connected by a single-storey entrance hall, which will open seamlessly onto an outdoor piazzetta and then into a garden and park. The project also includes landscaping and the relocation of utility networks," said Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).
The centre will have 150 beds in twin rooms. The pavilions will each have four storeys, and in addition to patient facilities, the complex will include doctors' consulting rooms, nurses' offices, rehabilitation rooms, day-care facilities, communal areas, dining rooms and sanitary facilities.
"Each pavilion will have a green roof. Other sustainability measures include the construction of rainwater retention tanks, which will be used to irrigate the surrounding park. The project also provides for 51 parking spaces, partially covered by a pergola," said Deputy Mayor for Investment René Černý (Independent, formerly ANO).
The complex on Červený kopec is among the strategic projects intended to prepare Brno for an ageing population. The city expects significant demographic pressure over the next ten years, which will only begin to ease slightly after 2050. The number of people over 80 and those suffering from dementia and other serious illnesses will increase. Pressure on the social care system will mount rapidly, at a time when social services have long been operating at the limits of their capacity and have waiting lists of applicants whose needs they cannot meet.
