Brno will begin searching for a contractor for the socio-health complex on Červený kopec

Brno - The construction of the socially-health complex on Červený kopec, prepared for 800 million crowns excluding tax, could start in Brno this autumn. The city council is set to approve the initiation of the procurement process for the contractor on Wednesday, said Deputy Mayor Filip Chvátal (KDU-ČSL) to reporters today. This would be one of the first projects in the country that provides both social and health care for the sick, disabled, and seniors.

Previously, such a facility was not possible because the social and health sectors were not interconnected. This changed with the amendment on the social-health border that came into effect this year. This was stated by Minister of the Environment Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL), who previously devoted himself to the Brno project in his role as deputy.

The project includes the construction of three pavilions connected by an entrance hall, each serving a different group of clients – seniors requiring nursing care, people in post-hospital care, or individuals with specific social needs. "Up to 150 clients will find a new home there. There will be a doctor and a nurse, ensuring basic health care, hence there will be no need to travel between healthcare facilities," said Hladík. The project also includes modifications of public space, connections to engineering networks, and the creation of a garden and facilities for staff.

The estimated costs amount to 800 million crowns. Financing is to be secured by the city; Hladík acknowledged the possibility of a grant from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. However, nothing is certain at this point. "The project is financially very substantial, and it was not easy to push it through. Nonetheless, we are demonstrating that family and social policy is essential for the city. The area has long been moving towards this goal, and we are building on one of the first architectural competitions announced by the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno," added Chvátal.

The project is designed and has a construction permit. If a contractor is selected, construction could begin in the autumn and be completed within two years.
