The Building of the Year is the Factory Hotel and the Brno Observatory
Prague - Representatives of ABF - Foundation for the Development of Architecture and Construction and other organizing bodies today presented the awards for Building of the Year 2012 to five accomplishments from the previous year, without distinguishing the order. The award went to a colorful mix of buildings, from the renovated Franciscan monastery in Hostinné in the Trutnov region to the massive fuel storage tanks in Loukov in the Kroměříž region. This was announced to ČTK by the organizers of the competition.
"The aim of the competition is to familiarize the broad professional and lay public with the level of Czech construction and architecture. The competition is organized to support the quality comprehensive implementation of construction works, from the rough structure to the craftsmanship details," the organizers stated. Buildings completed and put into operation or officially approved in the period from last June to May 2012 could enter the competition, regardless of the nationality of the designer, architect of the building, and the registration place of the contracting firms.
Construction works from all fields could enter the competition. This year, 53 projects were submitted, and the expert jury led by architect Radomíra Sedláková subsequently selected 15 objects for the final round.
The competition, along with the Foundation for the Development of Architecture and Construction, is organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Association of Entrepreneurs in Construction in the Czech Republic, and the magazine Stavitel.
