An international competition for architecture students, whose Czech part is announced in the academic year 2011/12 by the Faculty of Architecture at CTU in Prague and Foibos Bohemia o.p.s., in collaboration with the FA VUT Brno, FA TU Liberec, and FAST VSB-TU Ostrava.
The competition takes place simultaneously in the national rounds in Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary.
In 2012, the first edition of the competition will be held. The main purpose is to challenge the confrontation and mutual comparison of the youngest architectural creations, reflecting the current issues of individual housing and lifestyle.

The subject of the competition is the development of a competitive design for a family house for a family of 4. The goal is to find an architectural solution to current demands that reflects the national specifics of historical and modern residential architecture. However, the organizers deliberately do not announce any additional thematic restrictions on the competition projects to avoid interfering too much with the creators' creativity. The outputs of the project should offer a certain outlook for the future of family housing in the 21st century.

The competition is announced in close cooperation with Czech faculties of architecture in Brno, Liberec, Ostrava, and Prague. Promised to participate in the national jury, which will meet in April 2012 at CTU in Prague, are Markéta Cajthamlová, Jakub Kynčl, Pavel Nasadil, Alexandr Skalický. The judges will select the winning design or designs, the creators of which will be awarded books on architectural topics, participation in a 5-day international workshop in Debrecen in May 2012 and at a conference in Brussels in May 2013, including covered travel expenses, accommodation, and per diems.

All Czech competition entries will be presented after the jury meeting in April at CTU in Prague, where there will also be a ceremonial announcement of the winners and the opening of the exhibition. In the fall of 2012, the exhibition will also be presented at the locations of the other universities.
Selected competition projects will also be presented to the widest public through the website GreatVillas.org, where the winning works will be in the form of interactive 3D models. Finalists will also be publicly presented at a joint conference and exhibition of villa architecture from the Visegrád countries in Brussels in 2013.

Finalists from all national rounds of the competition will participate in a workshop in Hungary in May 2012.
For organizing the workshop this year, we have chosen Debrecen, which is home to Prof. Antal Puhl, DLA. Under his leadership, discussions and lectures by other instructors will take place here along with accompanying programs. The winners of the competition will jointly evaluate the history of residential architecture, attempt to further develop their competition designs based on these stimuli, and create a vision and model of a joint “European” villa, which will be further presented at an exhibition in Brussels in 2013.
