Brno - The South Moravian Building of the Year 2008 included, among other things, the Avriopoint administrative building, the extension of the gymnasium of the 1st Gymnasium in Brno, and the residential project Anenské terasy in Brno. The best buildings in the region from last year were ceremonially announced today at the Brno construction fairs. In the competition organized by the South Moravian Construction Association, around forty buildings competed. The extension of the gymnasium of the 1st Gymnasium won in the category of reconstruction of buildings and structures. According to the jury, the construction is executed very sensitively and of high quality within the existing school premises, and the investment expands educational possibilities. "The construction work meets current demands for high quality standards," the jury's evaluation states. Among residential buildings, the jury highlighted the residential project Anenské terasy with 62 apartments on Kopečná Street in Brno for 215 million Czech crowns. The jury was particularly interested in the unconventional design of the hallways and the fact that each apartment unit is unique. In the category of industrial and technological buildings, the first place went to the paint shop and blasting facility of the Transport Company of the City of Brno in the Medlánky district, which cost 156 million Czech crowns. In the category dedicated to transport, engineering, and water management constructions, the strongest support was given to the reconstruction and construction of sewerage in the basin of the Dyje River in the Břeclav region and the increase of water treatment capacity in Lednice in Moravia. This project cost just under six million euros (approximately 160 million Czech crowns). According to the jury, its execution naturally blended into the overall character of the surrounding landscape. The winning ecological construction is the removal of sludge and repair of the overflow of the Troskotovice Lower Pond for 24.5 million Czech crowns. Part of the construction involved the reinforcement of the dam, including the establishment of a facility for fish breeding at the bottom of the pond. The overflow was also redesigned for conditions of a hundred-year flood.
