The fifth year of the prestigious national architectural competition for the Peter Parléř Award focused on the rehabilitation and restoration of public spaces in Czech cities was launched on May 15, 2007. Its mission is to return the beauty of public spaces in cities and contribute to making them a place for meetings, pride, and a salon of the city. The announcement of the competition was preceded by a demanding selection process, in which 27 cities and municipalities participated in the preliminary round. In the finals, ten cities and municipalities defended their proposals for the modification of public spaces and buildings in public administration: Děčín, Chýně, Litovel, Jihlava, Kraslice, Mladá Boleslav, Slavkov u Brna, Stříbro, Světlá nad Sázavou, and Tišnov. More detailed characteristics of the assignments, as well as the competition conditions, can be found on the website of the Society of Peter Parléř (www.cenapp.cz), which is the organizer of the entire competition.
All proposals submitted to the competition have a great chance of future implementation, and thus the cities expect high-quality architectural studies. They will be evaluated by an expert jury composed of: Ing. arch. Ivan Hnízdil, Ing. arch. Tomáš Hradečný, Ing. arch. MgA. Alena Hýblová, Akad. arch. Petr Kovář, prof. Ing. arch. Miroslav Masák, Ing. arch. Jan Sedlák, and Ing. arch. Jaroslav Wertig.
The possibility to submit an architectural study for one of the selected assignments ends on September 24, 2007. The announcement of results and a public presentation of the studies to the clients is expected in early October 2007. All studies will then be provided to the cities free of charge based on agreed conditions. Since the competition's inception, a total of 77 architectural studies have been provided to the cities.
