The idea of a city that is more accommodating to various groups of residents has often been discussed in recent years. For the VI PER gallery, we have therefore prepared an exhibition that focuses on the lives of young children and their parents in Prague. How do they move around and where do they go? Where do they feel comfortable and where do they not? Is the city for everyone?
To answer these questions, we created a questionnaire for parents who frequently navigate the public spaces of Prague with their children. Our call received responses from 236 parents of preschool-age children. The themes that emerged from the survey were developed in an interdisciplinary team consisting of: Alžběta Brůhová (architect), Klára Brůhová (architectural historian), Karina Hoření (sociologist), Adéla Pečlová (architect), and Jakub Plachý (illustrator).
The exhibition you have before you is our analysis, but also a tangible commentary on the theme of space that is for everyone. You can freely walk or run through the exhibition, let yourself be guided by play (the principle of the game "Don't be angry, man"), but you can also just take a break or play. If you need to change, breastfeed, prepare milk, or warm up baby food, the exhibition space will provide you with facilities.
"Does it bother × Does it not bother" brings to life the idea of a city that is more open to everyone on the gallery's practice playground for several weeks.
