Nymburk – The Railways Administration (SŽ) and the city of Nymburk are continuing preparations for modifications to the Nymburk train station and its surroundings. The original proposal, which the city had comments on, will be revised by SŽ, and it will now also include a parking garage on today's temporary parking lot in the handling area. This information comes from SŽ spokesperson Dušan Gavenda and Nymburk mayor Tomáš Mach (Nymburk with ease).
The redesign study, which includes the station buildings, the area in front of the station, and the parking lot, originally did not meet the city’s requirements, according to Mach. "Negotiations were long without an agreement; a breakthrough occurred before the holidays," Mach said. For example, the city disagreed with the relocation of the bicycle tower as required by the original proposal and had objections regarding the form of the bus terminal. "The shift is that these ideas should be incorporated; the designers should integrate all of this into it, and there should be documents created for the zoning-building permit for all three parts," Mach said. The plan will now also incorporate a parking garage, which should be built next to the new headquarters of the railway firefighters. According to Mach, the form of the building does not yet have more specific outlines, as the project is in its early stages. However, the city wants to have it prepared for potential subsidies in the coming years.
The continuation of the project preparation was also confirmed by SŽ, which stated that the city had submitted materials regarding the parking garage project, based on which a price offer was prepared by the designers for its verification. "Currently, the finalization of basic requirements for the capacity and spatial solution of the building is underway. Following approval, it will be possible to start work on the project proposal, which will serve as a foundation for the completion of the architectural study and subsequently for the preparation of the project documentation," Gavenda told ČTK.
The new design of the Nymburk train station and its surrounding area emerged two years ago from an architectural competition initiated by SŽ, in which the design of architect Tomáš Hanus won. However, the city raised objections regarding the form of the bus terminal. According to the current construction plan, reconstruction of the Nymburk station building could begin in 2031. The existing dispatch building is to serve administrative needs of SŽ after reconstruction, and a new passenger station building is to be created. The station buildings will be an investment by SŽ, while the city will cover other modifications.
