Vysoké Mýto – Vysoké Mýto will open a new funeral hall on September 6. It was created according to the design of architect Roman Brychta; the original building was structurally compromised and outdated. The costs reached approximately 130 million crowns. According to Deputy Mayor Jan Lipavský (Patriots for VM), this is the most significant construction project in the city in the last ten years.
The architect designed a white circular hall with a glass roof and inner walls, whose cylinder is set within a lower square roof for funeral gatherings. The internal layout can be adjusted with the help of curtains for various numbers of attendees. The building also includes an office, a family room, a small ceremony hall, and additional facilities.
Access to the building is through a newly planted cherry orchard, which is paved. According to Brychta, the original space at the ceremony hall was neglected and not very visible behind the trees.
"The concept is such that it includes an orchard and a designated space under a roof for waiting and preparations; then you enter the tube. We wanted a green natural space, and upon entering, everything lights up," Brychta said. According to him, the oval shape resembles someone from the family circle departing.
The city has been preparing the ceremony hall since 2019 when it selected the winning design. After preparing the project documentation, the original funeral hall was demolished, and construction of the new one began in May 2023. The ceremony hall is managed by the Technical Services. They will lease it to funeral services.
