Hradec Králové - The Hradec Králové Region is preparing a project for a new school complex on Volanovská Street in Trutnov. It will build a campus for the Secondary School of Hospitality, Crafts, and Gastronomy, with estimated costs of 390 million crowns excluding VAT. Construction could start next year. CTK was informed of this today by the spokesperson of the regional office, Dan Lechmann. The plan follows an unsuccessful modernization of the school, which did not take place due to technical issues. The school had to move operations to temporary premises. The reconstruction was originally expected to be completed this year.

"The original school buildings were mostly demolished after an accident. The region is now working on the campus project," Lechmann stated.

The regional council approved the allocation of funds for the modernization of the school amounting to up to 472 million crowns from the regional budget. Currently, the region anticipates investments of about 390 million crowns excluding VAT. It is looking for co-financing opportunities from state and European grant programs.

"Project documentation is being created. The project is at the stage of architectural study and documentation for the removal of the remaining two buildings. The demolition and subsequent construction will be ensured by the construction company that should emerge from the tender next year," Lechmann noted. The project documentation is expected to be completed by February 2027. "The design office promised to shorten this deadline," the spokesperson added.

The original plan included the reconstruction of all four buildings of the complex at a total cost of over 60 million crowns including VAT. At the end of June 2023, during the reconstruction, the central bearing wall of one of the buildings collapsed. Based on a static assessment, the region decided to abandon the reconstruction and proceed with the demolition of the buildings and the preparation of a new project.

"Demolition of two of the four buildings has already taken place on the premises. The cost of demolition reached almost ten million crowns excluding VAT. The same construction company that was originally to carry out the reconstruction conducted the work. Currently, the site is closed for safety reasons,” said the regional councilor for regional investments and property, Zdeněk Praus (ANO).

The new complex will offer classrooms for theoretical education, specialized workshops, a gym, dormitory, school kitchen with dining hall, restaurant for the public where students will have practical training, canteen, administrative background, as well as outdoor relaxation areas and parking. The concept plans to place the main dormitory building further from the road.

The region expects that the construction tender will take place between March and June 2027, with construction work potentially starting in July 2027 and completion expected in May 2029. The furnishing of the interiors and the operation of the entire campus is anticipated between July and August 2029 so that the school can start using it from September 2029. The campus is expected to become a center for vocational education in the Trutnov area.

The Secondary School of Hospitality, Crafts, and Gastronomy in Trutnov was established in 2018 by merging the Secondary School of Hospitality and Catering in Teplice nad Metují and the Trutnov Secondary Vocational School and Secondary Vocational Training Institute. Education takes place at workplaces in Trutnov and Teplice nad Metují.
