Autodesk, a global leader in 2D and 3D design software for manufacturing, construction, media, and entertainment, announced that Autodesk's entertainment and design software was used to create content for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Top digital content creators leveraged Autodesk technologies to realize a variety of Olympic projects, such as visualizations projected at stadiums, mascot designs, television graphics, and advertising for global brands.
China Central Television (CCTV) CCTV is the largest national television network in China. CCTV created its Olympic packages and ads "One Dream, One World" and "Olympic Age" using Autodesk Smoke finishing system. The studio also used Smoke in its daily production of the Olympic broadcasts.
Crystal CG Crystal CG was the official graphics provider for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Using Autodesk 3ds Max, Crystal CG created architectural visualizations of the Bird’s Nest Olympic stadium and other facilities. The company also utilized 3ds Max and Autodesk Maya in producing television commercials and a sports educational program. Additionally, Crystal CG created five Olympic mascots, the Fuwa, in Maya.
Psyop/Stink Studio Psyop/Stink created three television commercials for Adidas' Olympic campaign "Together in 2008, Impossible is Nothing": "Together," "Zheng Zhi," and "Hu Jia," using Autodesk Maya animation software. These spots feature computer-generated crowds that look as if they were drawn with a pencil. "For almost every shot in the Adidas spots, we created elements in Autodesk Maya and combined them with live-action footage," said Tony Barbieri, technical director of Psyop. "Using Maya, we rapidly populated scenes with hundreds of diverse fans. There were about thirty variations of fans, all modeled and assembled in Maya. From a single skeleton for each gender, we could capture movement and create separate animation cycles to crowd the entire scene." Psyop provides 3D animations, visual effects, and digital content for the advertising industry.
Seven Network The internal team of the Australian television company Seven Network created Olympic promotional materials for Channel Seven using Smoke. "Smoke is the only system that can handle the huge amount of work at Seven. As our everyday production system, Smoke is absolutely invaluable," said Suzique Doughty, senior editor at Channel Seven.
suedlich-t The effects and animation studio suedlich-t relied on Maya and Autodesk software to produce Olympic trailers for the German public television networks ARD and ZDF. These trailers feature live footage of athletes in action morphing into strokes and drops of ink. The studio used Combustion for compositing shots and creating visual effects. For animating transitions between athletes and ink, the studio primarily utilized fluid and particle systems in Maya.
