50,000-year-old wood, harvested using a special method in New Zealand, has been used to create unique furniture by the Italian brand Riva 1920. The new Kauri collection primarily features dining and conference tables made from truly exceptional material. Each product has an original grain and finish.

Kauri (Agathis Australis) is a species of coniferous tree that grows only in the subtropical climate of New Zealand. The first ones appeared during the Jurassic period, about 190 to 135 million years ago. They are the largest trees in the world, in terms of trunk volume, which can reach up to 9 meters. Kauri can reach heights of around 70 meters. About 50,000 years ago, at the end of the last Ice Age, a series of unexplained disasters submerged entire kauri forests in water and mud. The unique properties of the mud and the absolute lack of oxygen literally preserved these plants. Trapped in the swamps, for a period of 30 to 50 thousand years and thanks to the chemical processes of decomposition and petrification, they have remained untouched to this day. It is also unique that despite being in the mud for thousands of years, the trunks are perfectly preserved and have the same quality as freshly harvested wood.

Riva 1920 produces high-quality solid wood furniture in collaboration with prominent architects and designers. They exceptionally interpret this amazing material, which, in qualified hands, transforms into true works of art. Due to the size of the trunks, tables can be made from single pieces ranging from 2 to 12 meters in length, with the size of the table restricted only by the capacity of the container used for transport. Each buyer has the option to select their own table with an original natural design.

The Riva 1920 brand is exclusively represented in the Czech Republic and Slovakia by Miele Center Stopka.
