The Wood Building Salon, a festival and showcase of contemporary wooden architecture, took place this year for the nineteenth time. At the festive opening in Prague, alongside numerous enthusiasts of wood and sustainable architecture, renowned foreign architects also arrived. During two days of lectures, the audience heard a total of 19 presentations and numerous discussions about the most significant wooden structures created in recent times. However, the exhibition of the best wooden buildings of today continues. Together with a unique wooden installation, it can be viewed on the piazzetta of the National Theatre until May 22.

The nineteenth edition of the Wood Building Salon was kicked off at Prague's CAMP center by designer Bjørn Kierulf, who comes from Norway but has lived in Slovakia since 1989, where he focuses on sustainable architecture at the Createrra studio. In Prague, he primarily spoke about passive houses that utilize natural building materials.

He was followed by a lecture from architect Do Janne Vermeulen from the Dutch architectural office Team V, where they work on a wide range of large-scale projects united by sustainability. Recently, Team V has been known for the innovative hybrid residential building HAUT in Amsterdam, which is among the tallest wooden buildings in the world. For the Czech market, HAUT is another proof that wood is also a material for high-rise buildings, which the audience at CAMP was able to confirm.

From inspiration abroad, the opening evening's program smoothly transitioned to a discussion about the situation in the Czech market and two residential buildings currently being constructed in the Czech Republic. Tomáš Krejčí, the director of the design department, spoke about the Timber Prague residential project that the developer is building as part of the Arcus City project in Prague's Stodůlky, together with Pavel Horák, the founder and director of the Wood Building Salon (who is also a partner in Prodesi/Domesi – an atelier and implementation firm focusing on wooden buildings). The discussion was contributed to by Kristýna Zavrtálková, the general director of a development company that is now starting the implementation of the Nová Tesla project in Pardubice, within which one residential building will be constructed using wooden building technology.

The following day, the Wood Building Salon moved to the piazzetta of the National Theatre, where representatives of the main partners ceremonially cut a wooden barrier and thus opened the installation associated with the exhibition to the public. In the adjacent indoor spaces of the New Stage, visitors could subsequently familiarize themselves with modern wooden building products and technologies and listen to lectures and discussions from 17 architectural studios that are part of this year's Yearbook published as part of the Wood Building Salon. The day culminated with the christening of the wooden architecture yearbook, which was conducted by Dutch architect Do Janne Vermeulen together with Pavel Horák. The yearbook maps the best wooden constructions from the past period. It also includes interesting interviews and articles on the topic. It is available on the website salondrevostaveb.cz.

The two busy days of the Wood Building Salon '24 did not end but rather began. The outdoor art exhibition with the exhibition will be on display at the piazzetta of the National Theatre until May 22. The design was created by a trio of architects from Prodesi/Domesi: Thu Ha Matoušková, Michael Šilar, and Michal Kotlas, with Jan Švarc as the designer, while Zbyněk Šrůtek from Timber design took care of the static parts. The main inspiration was the motif of the circle as a perfect geometric shape. The seating is symbolized by logs that, when assembled, form a whole – a circular floor plan. The landscape solution – creating a Czech forest in the middle of the city – was handled by the Partero atelier.
