Solid wood, artisanal craftsmanship, and an individual approach to each product. In an artisanal workshop in the heart of the Beskydy Mountains, original furniture is created under the brand Cupak Design, reflecting the author's lifelong experiences with sculpture, ceramics, and drawing. Currently, he also collaborates with architects and studios on custom-made original furniture.
The main inspiration for Pavel Cupák has been imagination since his youth, which provides him with a completely free approach to designing and creating. He has always loved painting, drawing, and hand-processing various (primarily natural) materials. He inherited this interest from his father, who was engaged in sculpture, painting, and primarily design, among other things. This is clearly seen, for example, in the oak table Coubique or the coffee table Moon made from elm wood.
It is precisely thanks to these influences and his own tendencies that original furniture with an unmistakable signature of the author is created in Pavel Cupák's workshop. "I am trying to create things - objects - furniture that connect everything I enjoy and what I have learned. To conceive a tabletop as a painter's canvas or graphic sheet, a coffee table as a sculpture or an object that also has functional application," says Pavel Cupák. For furniture production, he often uses solid oak boards about 8 cm thick, allowing for tabletops to be made from a single piece of wood that is 250 years old or more.
Cupák gradually got into interior design. He fully dedicated himself to it when he worked on interiors for foreign embassies, offices, and residences for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. "I was lucky enough to be able to choose almost unlimited furniture, furnishings, accessories, and everything necessary from the highest quality available on the market at that time and create interiors intended for that country. And what I couldn't find, I designed as atypical and had it made."
At one time, he also collaborated with landscape architects on exterior furnishings for public spaces. For several years, he focused on designing and producing original children's playgrounds, which allowed him to become intimately familiar with the properties and specifics of solid wood, which he now uses most often for his furniture. In his production of original furniture, "I try to reflect everything I have learned... drawing, painting, graphics, illustration, photography, sculpture, interior and exterior design, and mainly the joy and freedom of my own creation."
Currently, Pavel Cupák, in addition to his unique authorship, focuses on close collaboration with architects who are looking for original furniture, handmade from quality, unique materials, for their projects. "Collaboration with architects in the form of producing original interior and exterior furniture intrigues and excites me, as both the architect's style and the client's interests get 'tailored' into these projects, which I might not reach through my own work alone. What I enjoy most about my work is giving originally unprocessed material some authentic shape, character, essence, or, if you will, story, and I find it exciting and fun to create someone else's vision, not just my own."
The Cupak Design brand prides itself on honest and handmade processing and the use of local materials. It can thus be said without exaggeration that if you want authentic furniture from the Beskydy Mountains, it's a good idea to check out www.cupakdesign.com or to go directly to Trojanovice and either choose your piece of furniture or arrange for its production according to your own specifications. It's entirely up to you.
